Program Requirements
Hours- 170 hours of lecture (two lecture cycles minimum)
- 130 hours of observation
- 250 apprentice/intern hours
- 100 miscellaneous hours (training meetings, workouts, seminars, lessons, videos)
- 650 hours are required to complete the program. For most people this is the minimum. Plan at least 8-12 hours per week at the studio.
- Hours are to be logged and turned in every two weeks.
- You need to continue to workout and take lessons throughout the entire program.
- If there is space at the time of a class, semi-private, mat, and reformer classes are free to trainees on a first-come, first-served basis, as is personal workout time.
- Observation is according to protocol on “How to Observe” sheet.
- Each student must provide trial clients to accomplish their apprenticeship teaching. Invitation to teach studio clients will depend upon performance in apprenticeship situations.
- Acceptance into the program does not guarantee successful completion. Completion does not guarantee employment at Balance Within.
- The program is contracted for one year. Many people take longer. A signed contract and current payment status are necessary to continue in the training and for completion.
- To successfully complete the program and receive a certification of completion, each trainee must have a completed and validated log of the required hours and pass:
- A written exam on the application of Pilates theory with a minimum 80% score
- A written exam on anatomy with a minimum 80% score
- Practical teaching ability:
- mat class
- private high-end lesson
- new start lesson
- A personal performance test
Prior to entering the program it is necessary to schedule an interview with Gail Anderson, Program Director. Two letters of recommendation, a statement of intent, a personal data sheet and an evaluation lesson are required.
The cost of the complete program is currently $4,600.00. A $500.00 deposit and completed enrollment papers will hold your spot, with payment in full due at the end of the first lecture month. Program extensions (past one year) are available for another lecture cycle at the cost of $650.00. Individual weekends are available to non-program participants at a separate cost. Opening weekend is $375.00 as is the Anatomy/Pathology weekend. All other weekends are $300.00.
